Fertility preservation provides the option of storing or preserving frozen male (spermatozoa) or female (eggs) reproductive cells to suit needs. The intention is to be able to use them later and, using an assisted reproduction technique, still have the chance to have children, either upon medical recommendation or for personal reasons.
The freezing of spermatozoa and of testicular tissue has been very normal practice for some years now. Recently, advances in vitrification techniques have also made it possible to freeze eggs and ensure high survival rates.
